The 5 Laws Of YOLO

How are you doing?

How is your life at the moment? What's going on with you?

Are you excited and passionate about your everyday? Or are you just gliding along, feeling stuck and heavy with no idea how to turn around?

Do you feel overwhelmed, working at a dead beat job, willing the clock to tick away yet it's only 8 a.m. in the morning and you have another 7 hours to get by?  Or is your work something you love doing so much that even if you weren't paid for it you would gladly do it?

The great paradox:

We are working  hard to create a 'better future' for ourselves that we  forget to live in the now.  You bend over backwards in the hope that somebody will notice you and pay attention, but nobody does.  It is easy to feel like a statistic, a number or a 'something' amidst all the noise.

How then can you make sure that your life counts for something?

You Only Live Once [and if you live well, once is enough.]

My reflections this week are borne of the YOLO hashtag that has become something of my daily mantra. One of my friends describes YOLO as the ‘licence by Generation Y to be irresponsible.’ I disagree.  YOLO for me is a legitimate lifestyle choice. I see plenty of lessons in YOLO.

YOLO allows you to understand that you have one shot at the one life you have been gifted.

YOLO is the fine art of living it up.

YOLO has neither time nor patience for excuses.

YOLO reminds you to eat life with a big spoon.

YOLO calls on you to actively create and craft your life.

YOLO challenges you to go against the grain and chart your own path; to be brave.

YOLO pushes you to explore, fall down, get up and start again.

YOLO is your opportunity to claim back your power. {click to tweet}

In this neck of the cyber woods, pleasure is the name of the game and the YOLO philosophy is the way to make our pursuit of pleasure everyday easier.

In order to be successful at the YOLO game, here a few pointers to remember:

1| Know What You Want

Have you ever experienced the emotions that come with being crystal clear about what you want?

This step is always overlooked, or we sometimes do it by accident. It is important to get clear on what you want.  Sometimes it is as simple as declaring what you would like to see, feel or experience.  The hardest part of any of this is in becoming specific and detailed but having a general idea is pretty good.

Start from where you are, with what you have in mind and tweak as you go along.

So, what do you want?

Get a pen and paper and allow yourself 5 minutes to write any and every thing that comes to mind.

2| Allow The Universe To Surprise You.

Get clear on the What and the Universe will take care of the How. More often than not, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Apparently, I was supposed to be a paediatrician. That did not work out and I found myself within the confines of a Law classroom. Fast forward to 6 years later and I am in a completely different field. But you know, despite the curve, I would not change a thing.

Appreciate also that there are many other factors in play: timing, preparedness, willingness to receive, deserve-ability- to mention a few.

Look back over the course of your life and take note of significant incidences that you can easily refer to as 'miraculous' , 'serendipity' ,  'good luck' or  'coincidence.' That is your evidence that God supports you at all times.

Affirm to yourself: The universe supports me.

3|  Surround yourself with things that make you happy

This is HUGE if you want to feel happy and blessed and thankful. If you are going to spend money on anything, then it should at least spark your joy. Make sure your environment reflects the beauty and pleasure you wish to experience.

Closely related to surrounding yourself with what makes you happy is the idea that you have to let go.  Decluttering on all levels has a way of clearing up. Release the attachment to the drama and the energy that drains you. Experience freedom and transformation through letting go of unnecessary chains.

Make the call: Cut off ties with anything and anyone that burden and wear you out.

4| It's Never That Serious

Really, it's not.

The sky will not fall if you opt to have dark chocolate for dessert. If you miss one door, another one will open. We need to get back to laughing at ourselves and loosening up enough to take a step back. How many times have you worried yourself sick but later on things turned out just fine?

Do yourself a favour and take a chill pill.

5| Rock the everyday

Everyday is where the magic happens and where the grace is. Everyday is the moment of new beginnings. But this is the disclaimer: you are never guaranteed when everyday will come to an end. It’s up to you to make what you have count.

Allow your everyday to inspire you.
